This 26-inch Panchdhatu sculpture captures Lord Shiva in his most iconic form, Nataraja, the Lord of Dance. Enclosed within a flaming aureole, Shiva is shown with one leg lifted and the other stamping upon Apasmara, the dwarf demon of ignorance. His multiple arms extend gracefully, each carrying profound symbolism: the drum (damaru) representing creation, the fire symbolizing destruction, the abhaya mudra offering protection, and the raised leg signifying liberation.
The sculpture is cast in Panchdhatu, the sacred alloy of copper, brass, gold, silver, and iron, revered for its spiritual resonance. Each piece begins as a wax model, later cast in molten metal and painstakingly hand-finished by skilled artisans. The antique bronze patina enriches the contours, highlighting the dynamic energy of Shiva’s dance.
The flowing strands of hair, intricate ornaments, and expressive face embody devotion and craftsmanship rooted in South Indian temple traditions. The lotus-petal pedestal grounds the figure, making it suitable for both sacred worship and aesthetic display.
