Artisans then bring the regal elephant to life in bold strokes, dressing it in ceremonial finery of white, blue, red, and green over a radiant yellow background. Every detail from the arching tusks to the patterned saddle is painted freehand before a transparent glaze seals the design. Low-temperature firing preserves the brilliance of the colors and lends a smooth, lustrous surface.
