Traditionally used for storing water, the matka’s generous rounded belly and narrow neck now serve as the perfect canvas for Jaipur’s blue pottery artistry. Made without clay, the vase is shaped from a blend of ground quartz, glass, and natural binders, then coated in a smooth white slip.
Master artisan Gopal Saini paints each palm leaf in flowing shades of deep blue, using freehand strokes that capture the leaf’s gentle curves and natural elegance. The ivory background offers a soft contrast, making the artwork feel both airy and bold. Once glazed and low-fired, the piece gains a rich, lustrous finish that enhances the depth of colour. Perfect for a console, dining table, or as a floor vase for tall dried stems, this matka embodies the fusion of nature-inspired design and Rajasthan’s storied ceramic tradition.
